Otherness Is Power follows an artist through her home, her car and the galleries and studios of her city. I produced, directed, filmed and edited it, and chose a longer format so a personal story had room to unfold.
Documentary produced, directed, filmed and edited by Will Mosley for The Celestial Collection.
01
Following, not staging.
Much of the film is shot handheld beside the subject: in the kitchen, behind the wheel, walking into a gallery. The camera keeps pace with her day instead of arranging it.
02
Other artists, other hands.
The story widens to the people around her. A paper marbling studio and a watercolor gallery get their own scenes, with tight shots of ink, combs and paper.
03
Room for the conversation.
Direct address to camera carries the argument of the film. Plain backgrounds and steady framing keep attention on what is being said.
