Label errors on a large botanical line were expensive and slow to fix. With Isaac Switzer I designed a WordPress and WooCommerce workflow that let production staff edit product information and print labels themselves, instead of recreating a PDF for every change.

One of the coolest problems we solved was allowing our production employees to easily update and print supplement bottle labels through a WordPress-based system we built together. Will helped design the back-end automation that saved us countless man-hours and eliminated errors.

Start from the product record.

The builder reads the product line, weight, directions and SKU straight from the store. A staff member picks a product from a form, sets a date and batch, and the label is composed from data that already exists.

Rules live in code, not in memory.

Label count follows bottle size. Lot numbers combine SKU, date and batch. Required warnings and the manufacturer block are fixed strings. Nobody has to remember them, so nobody can forget them.

Built with the people who use it.

Isaac worked on the production floor, so the builder was shaped by how labels were actually printed. His account of the project describes the collaboration, the feedback loop and the errors it removed.
